We're thrilled to announce that Pixel Storm Media is coming on board as a proud sponsor of the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival, one of the most distinctive voices in genre cinema anywhere in the world.
For us, this is more than a logo on a banner. It's a partnership rooted in a shared belief: that great storytelling deserves to reach the big screen looking and sounding exactly as its makers intended.
A festival with a gift for discovery
Since its inception in 2020, the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival has built a reputation for unearthing thoughtful, ingenious speculative storytelling from every corner of the globe. In 2025 alone, the festival received films from 37 countries — a testament to how far its reach extends and how highly the international filmmaking community regards a spot in its programme.
Now in its seventh year, the festival returns to EVENT Cinemas George Street — Australia's oldest and most prestigious exhibitor — from 9–11 October 2026. Under festival director Simon Foster, it has become a genuine global community hub for fans and filmmakers of speculative cinema alike.
That instinct for finding bold, original work from anywhere and everywhere is exactly what drew us in.
What Pixel Storm Media brings to the table
As part of this partnership, our team will be rolling up our sleeves on two fronts.
First, we'll be helping selected filmmakers create their DCPs — the Digital Cinema Packages that turn a finished film into a true cinema-ready master. For many independent and international filmmakers, getting a film from the edit suite onto a commercial cinema screen is a technical hurdle that can be daunting and expensive. Our job is to take that worry off their plate, so their work plays back flawlessly at George Street the way it deserves to.
Second, we'll be lending our post-production and technical expertise to help the festival run smoothly, supporting the behind-the-scenes work that keeps a multi-day, multi-venue event humming and lets the films take centre stage.
Where post meets possibility
DCP mastering and playback is the heart of what we do at Pixel Storm Media, and there's a real symmetry in putting those tools to work for a festival that champions discovery. The filmmakers the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival spotlights are often pushing boundaries on tight budgets — exactly the kind of creators who benefit most from professional-grade delivery they might not otherwise have access to.
"This festival has spent years giving a platform to extraordinary science fiction from filmmakers who might never have had one otherwise. Helping those films reach the cinema screen flawlessly is everything Pixel Storm Media stands for. We couldn't be prouder to support Simon and the team." — Johan Earl, Founder, Pixel Storm Media
See you in October
If you're a filmmaker with a science fiction, fantasy or speculative work that might rattle the festival's cage, submissions are open now through the festival's FilmFreeway portal. And if you're a fan of the genre, mark your calendar for 9–11 October 2026 at EVENT Cinemas George Street.
We'll see you there — and we can't wait to see what this year's selection unearths.
